Fleur van Dodewaard’s art practice is situated at the intersection of Photography, Sculpture and Painting. Play and experiment with the characteristics, history and possibilities of these media in relation to one another - are key. Van Dodewaard creates temporary constructions in the studio, with elementary materials like pieces of wood or clay. She cuts, paints, moulds, arranges, and takes a photograph. The photograph is the artwork.
Fleur: “My work enables me to immerse myself in a process of play, thought, and working with my hands. Art-historical works and themes are a never-ending source of joy. They are my inescapable and multifaceted other in the process of investigating and re-inventing myself and the art object. Through the ongoing tumbling of old and new images, objects, ideas and forms, I try to discover the world around me, day in and out, with new eyes.”
Van Dodewaard’s work has been shown in exhibitions all over the world; from Japan to Russia, Australia, United States and all over Europe. It is included a.o. in the art collections of Frans Halsmuseum Haarlem, FOAM Amsterdam and Museum Voorlinden Wassenaar, The Netherlands. At the moment she receives an Established Artist Stipend from Mondriaan Fund, The Netherlands.
