Biscuits is a series of 15 photographs. Each of them shows a sculptural assemblage of a yet unfinished porcelain vase, or vase-like shape, ('biscuit') and multiple small and colourful found objects of various materials. The work has been created in collaboration with Arita-Japan-based potteries during an artist-in-residence in Arita in October 2015. In 2016, 400 years of trade between Japan and the Netherlands was celebrated. This work brings together 2 historical, cultural, highlights from both sides. The Japanese material ‘kaolin’, from which porcelain is made, discovered 400 years ago in Arita; and the Dutch still life flower paintings dating from the same time.
